Martyn Rooney: '4x400m team rose to the occasion'

Martyn Rooney says that Great Britain's men's 4x400m relay team "rose to the occasion" by winning the bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships.

Great Britain 4x400m relay captain Martyn Rooney has said that he is proud of the team's performance.

The quartet of Rabah Yousif, Delanno Williams, Jarryd Dunn and Rooney won the bronze medal after pipping Jamaica in a photo finish.

"I'm very proud to be British and very proud to represent my country. To be captain was amazing," Rooney told BBC Sport.

"The group of people we had on this team really rose to the occasion. We all came here to do the job. I'm very proud of everyone in this quartet who ran amazingly well.

"For Great Britain as a whole it's an incredible time. Hopefully next year going into the Olympics. We can come back and get stronger."

Great Britain finished the World Athletics Championships in fourth in the medals table.
