Team GB's Lucy Hatton "absolutely gutted" to miss out on Euros place

British hurdler Lucy Hatton tells Sports Mole that she is "absolutely gutted" to not make the Team GB squad for the upcoming European Indoor Athletics Championships.

Lucy Hatton has admitted that she is "absolutely gutted" to have missed out on a place in the Team GB squad for next month's European Indoor Athletics Championships in Prague.

Competing in the women's 60m hurdles in Birmingham this afternoon, the 20-year-old needed to record a time of 8.05 seconds or better to secure her spot in the Czech Republic.

However, despite finishing in third and one place better off than her compatriot Tiffany Porter, Hatton could only record a time of 8.11 seconds.

"I'm absolutely gutted. I felt like it was there today. I think maybe if I was a little bit more into the race and not put in lane eight [it would have been different]," she told Sports Mole after the race.

"I've come out here today and shown people that I can compete. I've just come third [and] I've got Tiffany Porter beneath me.

"Every time I've gone out, I've shown that I can hold my head up against the competition. The time hasn't been there, but this is the first time I've had athletes in front of me and I've still come third. Maybe if I wasn't shunted out wide all the time [and] if I was in the rumble, I could handle it."

Hatton went on to confirm that she is now hoping to win the European Under-23 Athletics Championships in Estonia later this year.
