Charles van Commenee still uncertain of Phillips Idowu's Olympic Games fitness

Van Commenee can't guarantee Idowu's fitness

Great Britain's athletics head coach Charles van Commenee remains uncertain whether triple-jumper Phillips Idowu will be fit to compete at the London Olympics.

The British Olympic Association recently requested details of Idowu's condition and Van Commenee has confirmed that the athlete is still "not in the greatest place" with the Games looming.

"He's not [at the Team GB training camp in Portugal] - I wish he was here, because I think it is the best place to prepare. His coach is here, the best medical staff are here and all the athletes are here, so I'm slightly frustrated with that.

"At the same time I feel sympathy as well because he is not in the greatest place two weeks before the most important moment in his athletic life."

Idowu won silver at the Beijing Olympics.
