Olympic Park to be adapted after London 2012 Games

South Plaza to be created in Olympic Park

A section of the Olympic Park is to be converted into the South Plaza after the close of the Games in London this summer.

The new site, which will be set up in the Southern end of the park, will display a 'labyrinth' fountain, a performance area, a carousel and a play area for young children.

Chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation Andrew Altman told the BBC: "London is already further ahead in planning legacy than any previous Olympic host city.

"We aim to create the South Plaza as part of the 18-month transformation of the park after the Games from an Olympic site into a new part of London."

The new structure has been designed by landscape architects from the James Corner Field Operation.
