Jo Pavey clinches 10,000m gold at European Championships

Great Britain's Jo Pavey becomes the oldest female champion at the European Championships by winning the 10,000m in Zurich.

Great Britain's Jo Pavey has stormed home in the 10,000m in Zurich to become the oldest woman to ever win a gold medal at the European Championships.

It took a while for the drama to unfold on the track, with the leading group remaining large for the majority of the race as the favourites jostled for position.

Defending champion Ana Dulce Felix struggled to keep in touch with her rivals in the closing stages when Pavey followed Clemence Calvin and Sara Moreira on a breakaway.

The 40-year-old took the lead on the final lap, and despite Calvin's best efforts, the Brit looked far too strong for her closest challenger as she crossed the line in 32:22.39.

Calvin was joined on the podium by French teammate Laila Traby, who collected bronze thanks to a late rally.
