WADA statement: 'Russia ban good for athletics'

The World Anti-Doping Agency releases a statement in support of the IAAF's decision to ban Russia from all athletics competitions due to doping allegations.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has released a statement saying that it supports the IAAF's decision to suspend the Russian Federation from all athletics events.

WADA published a report earlier this week recommending that Russia should be banned from future athletics competitions after widespread doping allegations, and the IAAF voted 22-1 in favour of the proposal on Friday.

The statement read: "WADA welcomes the IAAF's decision to declare the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) non-compliant and provisionally suspend the federation; this was one of the core recommendations in the WADA independent commission's Report.

"The decision is positive news for clean athletes worldwide.

"We will make no further comment at this time."

The ban could mean that Russia do not participate in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
