Sharp smashes women's 800m record

Lynsey Sharp has set a new Scottish record in the women's 800m with her finish time of 57.71 seconds at the IAAF World Challenge in Berlin.

The 25-year-old came in ahead of world champion Marina Arzamasova to record the third-fasted time for a Briton, behind Kelly Holmes and Kirsty Wade.

Holmes set the current British record of 1.56.21, breaking Wade's previous time of 1.57.42, dating back to 1985.

Sharp featured at last month's World Athletics Championships, but failed to make the final in Beijing.
