Proctor sets new British long jump record

Shara Proctor has broken the British long jump record at the Anniversary Games in London, beating her own previous mark by three centimetres.

The 26-year-old recorded a distance of 6.98m within minutes of compatriot Dina Asher-Smith becoming the first British woman to run a 100m race in under 11 seconds.

After the jump, she told BBC Sport: "The claps echo around the stadium, and it gave me the extra boost. I was shaking at the start. I did not expect that jump. This stadium is the greatest place to jump. It gave me chills.

"There is more to come. I am in hard training and that's why I didn't expect a jump like that."

Heptathlon duo Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Jessica Ennis-Hill finished in fourth and seventh place respectively.
