David Rudisha sidelined for Birmingham Grand Prix

800m world record holder David Rudisha withdraws from this weekend's Birmingham Grand Prix after failing to recover from injury.

Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha has revealed that he can't afford to take any risks with an injury suffered in Ostrava last month.

Rudisha has been forced to withdraw from this weekend's Birmingham Grand Prix after pulling up during the early stages of a 600m race in the Czech Republic with a muscle spasm.

The 26-year-old told The Standard: "I just can't risk a race that soon. I am making good progress these last days but it will be just a few days too soon."

The world record holder is yet to announce a date for his return as he looks to continue his preparation ahead of this summer's World Championships in Beijing.
