Rodgers tests positive for banned substance

American sprinter Michael Rodgers has tested positive for the banned substance methylhexaneamine.

The 26-year-old 100m sprinter, who confirmed the news via his Twitter account, is believed to have contracted the stimulant from an energy drink before testing positive after a meeting in Lignano, Italy last month.

"Bad decision on his part. Now he's paying the price for it," said Rodgers' agent Tony Campbell.

"We have to clear his name. That's the main thing we want do right now. Mike is not a druggie. The only thing he is guilty of is making a poor choice.

"He's broken up by this. I just told him 'I hope it's an eye opener for you' but it's tearing him up inside."

Rodgers could miss the World Championships in South Korea later this month if the situation is not resolved.
