Paris formally launches its bid for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics by sending a letter to the International Olympic Committee.

Paris has formally launched its bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The French Olympic Committee have submitted a letter to the IOC detailing why their nation should be chosen.

According to insidethegames.biz, a quote from the letter read: "The Olympic spirit and the Parisian identity share a common attachment to unity in diversity, a common tolerance when faced with differences, a common demand for peace and openness."

Paris previously hosted the Games in 1900 and 1924, but failed in bids for the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Olympics - the latter of which was staged in London.
