Merritt breaks 110m hurdles record

American Aries Merritt has broken the 110m hurdles world record with a time of 12.80s.

Merritt achieved the feat at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels, breaking the record set by Cuba's Dayron Robles in 2008 by seven hundredths of a second.

Usain Bolt was far from his best in the 100m but he finished strongly to win in a time of 9.87s.

Jamaican compatriot Yohan Blake eased to victory in the 200m in a time of 19.54s.
