Eliud Kipchoge beats Wilson Kipsang to London Marathon crown

Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge pulled away from Wilson Kipsang in the closing stages to end his compatriot's reign as men's London Marathon champion earlier today.

Former track runner Kipchoge, 30, crossed the line in 2.04:42, just ahead of two-time winner Kipsang. Another Kenyan, world-record holder Dennis Kimetto, was third in 2.05:50.

In the women's race, Ethiopia's Tigist Tufa ended four years of Kenyan dominance by claiming an impressive victory in 2.23:22, 18 seconds ahead of Mary Keitany.

Former winner Paula Radcliffe also bid farewell to competitive marathon running in a time of 2.36:55.

Radcliffe, now 41, set a world record of 2.15:25 when she won her home marathon back in 2003.
