Katarina Johnson-Thompson's coach won't use Jessica Ennis-Hill as "cattle prod"

Katarina Johnson-Thompson's coach Mike Holmes says that Jessica Ennis-Hill will not be used as a "cattle prod" to motivate his athlete.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson's coach Mike Holmes has insisted that he will not use Jessica Ennis-Hill in order to get the best out of his athlete.

Johnson-Thompson moved to world number one in heptathlon during Ennis-Hill's two-year absence, and also broke her fellow Brit's record to win gold at the European Championships in March.

Ennis-Hill made her competitive return last week at the Great City Games in Manchester following numerous injuries and the birth of her son.

"You don't rock up and try and take on Jess. It's like kicking the Queen in the shins, you just don't do it," BBC Sport quotes Holmes as saying.

"We've got the utmost respect, total respect for her. They get on so well, so I don't think I'd use Jess like a cattle prod in Kat's case."

Ennis-Hill finished third in the 100m hurdles in Manchester.
