UK Athletics technical director Stephen Maguire says that CJ Ujah will be considered for selection for Great Britain after serving his 22-month doping ban.

UK Athletics technical director Stephen Maguire has affirmed that CJ Ujah will be considered for selection for international events despite his recent doping ban.

The 28-year-old tested positive for Ostarine and S-23 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, during which he formed a part of GB's silver-medal winning team in the men's 4x100m relay.

Ujah, Zharnel Hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake were stripped of their medals in February following the former's positive test, and he was handed a 22-month suspension last week.

Ujah's ban will end on June 5, 2023, having been backdated to August 6, 2021, and he was cleared of intentionally taking the drugs by the Athletics Integrity Unit and World Anti-Doping Agency.

The 2017 relay world champion has apologised to his Tokyo teammates after their medals were taken away, but Maguire has not closed the door on a possible return to the GB squad for Ujah.

If [Ujah] is available to compete we will select him. I haven't spoken to CJ in a couple of years. He made a mistake and that's clear, I need to see what the environment is like," BBC Sport quotes Maguire as saying.

"CJ, first of all, has to run fast anyway. It's looking at that environment and where it all fits. Hopefully things go easy for CJ in coming back and it would be great to have that choice in selecting CJ. The 100m and 4x100m is going to be tough for anyone.

"I'll definitely be chatting to CJ. I've had a couple of conversations with the BOA (British Olympic Association). It's getting to know them now the CJ news has broken. He's eligible next year. It's a conversation I'll need to have."

Ujah will be eligible to compete at next year's World Athletics Championships, which take place in Zurich between August 19 and August 27, two months after his suspension is due to be lifted.
