Traffic Report: Exceptionally busy London on first Games weekday

Exceptionally busy London on first Games weekday

As today is the first weekday of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the roads and public transport networks around the capital are expected to be exceptionally busy.

Visitors travelling to Olympic Park are advised to use the District or Hammersmith & City lines and walk (15-20 minutes) from West Ham.

Almost 50,000 spectators are expected to descend upon Greenwich Park for the Equestrian Cross Country event. It would therefore be wise to avoid London Bridge and take services from Cannon Street, Victoria or Charing Cross to Greenwich or Blackheath instead.

Embankment station is also likely to be very busy all day as a result of the Beach Volleyball taking place at Horse Guards Parade.

In addition to those mentioned above, the following venues will also be hosting events today: ExCel Arena, North Greenwich Arena, Royal Artillery Barracks, Earls Court, Lord's, Wimbledon and Wembley Arena.
