Iwan Thomas backs Dai Greene to hold nerve at Olympics

Thomas backs Greene to hold nerve

Iwan Thomas has backed Welsh hurdler Dai Greene to overcome the odds and beat rival Javier Culson to 400m hurdles Olympic gold.

Greene has failed to beat Culson this season, but did record a personal best in his last race in Paris, and Thomas, a former 400m runner, believes his fellow countryman can upset the odds.

Thomas told BBC Sport Wales Olympic Special: "One thing Dai is great at is keeping his nerve.

"Culson is running well and you can't control that, but has he got the mental strength of Dai Greene?

"There is a massive amount of pressure when you are at the Olympics and Dai can handle that."

Greene is the reigning European and Commonwealth champion.
