False-start rule stands for London 2012

The IAAF have confirmed that the current false-start rule will stand for the London 2012 Olympics.

The ruling, which sees athletes instantly disqualified for making a false-start, has come under scrutiny at the recent world championships in Daegu, South Korea, after a number of athletes, including Usain Bolt, fell foul of the law.

President Lamine Diack said that no-one at Sunday's IAAF meeting wanted the rule to be changed.

"We will not come back to the issue. Bolt had a false start but that is not going to make us change," he said.

The previous rule, which was scrapped a year ago, saw the first athlete to false-start shown a yellow card, with any subsequent athlete disqualified.
