London 2012 chairman Lord Coe says that security at the Olympic Games has not been compromised despite G4S failing to provide enough staff.

London 2012 chairman Lord Coe has said that security at the upcoming Olympics will not be compromised, despite the failure of company G4S to secure enough staff.

The security company failed to provide the 10,000 staff promised, which led to 3,500 troops being drafted in to make up the numbers.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Lord Coe said: "We will work very hard, we will remedy this - security will not be compromised.

"This is not about numbers, this is about the mix.

"The reality is - and I can't put it more simply than this - G4S expected people to materialise and when they didn't, as the home secretary has said, we moved very quickly to fill that gap."

The opening ceremony of the Games takes place on July 27.
