Greg Rutherford earns spot in long jump final with first effort

Greg Rutherford books his spot in the final of the long jump at the Commonwealth Games after beating the qualification mark with his first jump.

Greg Rutherford has cruised into the final of the long jump at the Commonwealth Games after beating the qualification mark with his first jump.

The Olympic champion, who set a new British record of 8.51m earlier this year, recorded a first jump of 8.05m at Hampden Park to safely secure his progress.

A group of 12 men will qualify for Friday evening's final, with Rutherford considered one of the favourites to take home to gold medal.

Rutherford recently revealed that he would be happy to take the title with a jump below his best.
