England's women impress in 800m heats

England's Jenny Meadows and Jess Judd impress in qualifying from the heats of the women's 800m in Glasgow, while Marilyn Okoro also goes through as a fastest loser.

Jenny Meadows and Jess Judd put in impressive performances in the women's 800m as all three of England's runners progressed from the Commonwealth Games heats.

Meadows won the opening heat at Hampden Park, making her move down the back straight to cross the line ahead of Scotland's European champion Lynsey Sharp.

Judd went through as the second-fastest qualifier having finished runner-up to Canada's Melissa Bishop in the quickest of the four heats, from which Scotland's Emily Dudgeon also advanced.

Katie Kirk of Northern Ireland, who was one of seven young UK athletes to light the flame at the London 2012 opening ceremony, kept up with Kenya's Eunice Jepkoeach Sum in the final qualifier.

England's Marilyn Okoro could only finish fifth in that race, but makes it to Thursday's semi-finals as a fastest loser.
