Bianca Williams: 'Running side-by-side with Kerron Stewart was amazing'

English sprinter Bianca Williams was over the moon to keep up with Jamaican colleague and idol Kerron Stewart in today's 100m Commonwealth Games heats.

Team England sprinter Bianca Williams has described keeping pace with Jamaica's Kerron Stewart in today's 100m Commonwealth Games heats as "amazing".

Williams, 20, went toe-to-toe with former Olympic silver medallist Stewart throughout today's heat at Hampden Park but was just edged out for first by two-hundredths of a second.

When asked by Sports Mole how it felt to be running side-by-side with one of her idols, Williams said: "It was amazing - to come out here against Kerron Stewart, one of the greatest sprinters and someone that I've done relay against and look up to.

"I know she's a good starter and I just had to relax and get out and that's what I did. I executed my race very well."

Williams's time of 11.37 was the fifth-fastest in qualifying. She will be up against Stewart and the fastest woman from qualifying - Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare - in the last semi-final tomorrow evening.
