Team England long jumper Greg Rutherford has played down concerns over his fitness for the Commonwealth Games.

The 2012 Olympic gold medalist cruised into the final at Hampden Park this evening with a qualifying jump of 8.05m on his first attempt.

After the jump, Rutherford told Sports Mole that he was being "held together by tape" having suffered a number of injury problems since his success in London, but he insists that he is "fine" for the Games.

"It's okay, it's fine. I'm here, I just jumped okay so it's fine. It's not a problem, definitely not a problem. You manage these things. I'm fine. I'm feeling pretty good. Excited," Rutherford told reporters.

The men's long jump final will take place tomorrow evening at 6.45pm.
