Andrew Osagie's 800m disqualification to stand

Andrew Osagie will not be reinstated for the men's 800m semi-final, Sports Mole can confirm.

Andrew Osagie will not be reinstated for the men's 800m semi-final at the Commonwealth Games, a spokesperson for Team England has told Sports Mole.

The runner was disqualified from the event during qualification earlier today when it was deemed that he had "obstructed" Wales's Joe Thomas from overtaking him into third position.

Osagie subsequently told Sports Mole that he had been "tripped" by Thomas and had lodged an appeal against the disqualification.

A spokesperson confirmed that the appeal was unsuccessful and that Osagie had been found to commit a violation of "deliberately impeding" the Welshman.

The news leaves Michael Rimmer and Mukhtar Mohammed as the remaining English hopefuls in the 800m semis, which get underway at 8.55pm on Wednesday in Glasgow.
