Richard Kilty hopeful of proving doubters wrong in Glasgow

Kilty eager to "shock" critics

Richard Kilty has admitted that he is preparing for the Commonwealth Games with a point to prove as he looks to produce a shock in the 100m.

The 24-year-old was a surprise winner in the 60m at the World Indoor Championships earlier this year, and he is optimistic that he can replicate similar form outdoors when the heats begin on Sunday.

"I think people have started to doubt me a little bit, so now I can go out there hungry and hopefully shock a few people," Kilty told BBC Newcastle. "It's been really frustrating because of the expectation that a lot of people have put on me, and the expectation I put on myself.

"Hopefully the championship atmosphere will draw the best out of me and I can run a bit quicker than I have done before."

Kilty has never managed to break the 10-second barrier in 100m races.
