Dwain Chambers withdraws from Commonwealth Games

Team England sprinter Dwain Chambers pulls out of the Commonwealth Games in order to prepare for next month's European Championships.

The 100m sprinter Dwain Chambers has withdrawn from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Team England have confirmed.

Chambers, who won bronze at the 1999 World Championships and silver the year before at the Europeans, has decided not to compete in Scotland in order to fully prepare for next month's European Championships in Zurich.

"Team England has confirmed today that Dwain Chambers has withdrawn from the men's 4x100m relay squad for Glasgow and will focus on the individual 100m event at the European Championships in Zurich next month," a statement read.

The team also confirmed that there would be no replacement for the 36-year-old.
