England long-distance runner Julia Bleasdale has pulled out of the 5000m race at the Commonwealth Games because of injury, it has been confirmed.

The 32-year-old, who placed eighth in the 5000m race at the London Olympics in 2012, was scheduled to line up in tomorrow evening's event at Hampden Park.

However, a statement read: "Team England has confirmed that Julia Bleasdale has withdrawn from the 5000m at the Commonwealth Games as a result of a leg injury."

Bleasdale also took part in the 10,000m race two years ago in the English capital, securing another eighth-placed finish.
