Michael Bingham: 'We ran for each other'

England's Michael Bingham tells Sports Mole that the team's gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 4x400m relay is down to the desire to run "for each other".

Team England's Michael Bingham has said that the 4x400m relay squad's performance at the Commonwealth Games was down to the desire to run "for each other".

Bingham ran the second leg for England in tonight's final at Hampden Park as he combined with Conrad Williams, Daniel Awde and Matthew Hudson-Smith to win the gold medal.

The success was made even more special for the quartet by the fact that they have missed out on a place on the podium numerous times previously, and Bingham hailed the team spirit as one of the major reasons behind the victory.

"That's the biggest thing - we all ran for each other, we always said that and that's our motto really - running for each other and running hard for each other," he told Sports Mole.

"No matter whether you're just running the heats or you're just running the final, everyone's concern is the medal."

Bahamas crossed the line just 0.05s behind England to claim silver, while Trinidad and Tobago picked up the bronze.
