Bulgarian athlete fails drugs test at Olympic Games

Bulgarian athlete Silvia Danekova becomes the first competitor to fail an in-competition drugs test at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Silvia Danekova has become the first athlete to fail an in-competition drugs test at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Despite doping being a hot topic before the Games, there has been little mention of banned substances during the opening week in Rio de Janeiro but it will again hit the headlines after Danekova produced a positive test.

The 33-year-old had been due to compete in the 3,000m steeplechase but she has been temporarily suspended until the results of her 'B' sample.

It has been suggested that the test was carried out after her arrival in Brazil but before the start of the Olympics last Friday.
