Grossman: 'Cousins needs practice'

Rex Grossman has said that Kirk Cousins will need to practise the read-option offense if he is to stand in for Robert Griffin III at the start of the 2013 NFL season.

The Washington Redskins starting quarterback is recovering from knee surgery, with the team preparing for Cousins to lead the team.

The Redskins third-string quarterback told WTEM-AM: "[Offensive coordinator] Kyle Shanahan could not call [read-option plays] without laughing while he called it for me.

"Whether Kirk could, we'll see. But it takes some getting used to, and if they are gonna run it with Kirk, they'd definitely need to practice it a lot."

RG3 set a new record for most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback last year.
