Gruden: 'Griffin III has to play if healthy'

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has revealed that he has no qualms about throwing quarterback Robert Griffin III straight back into his side following an injury lay-off.

Griffin has been out with a dislocated ankle since the second week of the season, but has now recovered from the injury and is poised to play in his side's clash against the Minnesota Vikings.

"That is why it is important for him to play as soon as he is healthy. We feel like he is 100% healthy. We've got to get him ready and get him learning the position," Gruden told reporters.

"Will he make mistakes? Of course he will; everybody will. His will be magnified obviously because he is the quarterback.

"But that won't stop us from coaching him up and trying to get him to do right. The more he sees with the concepts that we are doing, with the drop-backs, with the pressure and how he handles pressure in situations, the better he will get."

The Redskins have a 3-5 record in their season going into their week-nine match.
