Doug Baldwin apologises for rude touchdown celebration in Super Bowl

Baldwin apologises for rude celebration

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin has apologised for the rude celebration following his touchdown in the Super Bowl.

The 27-year-old squatted over the ball and imitated sitting on a toilet after putting his team into a 24-14 lead against the New England Patriots in an apparent taunt against cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Baldwin was penalised for the incident with a 15-yard infraction and was also fined $11,025 (£7,180) after the Seahawks' loss at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

"I do regret the fact that it cost my team 15 yards, and to the fans, ultimately I apologise to anybody I offended in any way," Baldwin told ESPN.

"It wasn't about that. I just think it was a competitive situation. So to all the 12s, all the fans, that's not what it's about. So I apologise to anyone if I offended you.

"In that moment, it was just a reaction. So obviously if I could go back, I would take it back."

The touchdown grab was Baldwin's only reception in the Super Bowl.
