Seattle Seahawks promote Kris Richard to defensive coordinator

The Seattle Seahawks confirm that they have promoted defensive backs coach Kris Richard to become their new defensive coordinator following the departure of Dan Quinn.

The Seattle Seahawks have announced that they have promoted Kris Richard as their new defensive coordinator.

Richard had served as the club's defensive backs coach for the past three seasons as he helped mould the 'Legion of Boom', consisting of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Byron Maxwell.

The 35-year-old has now received the promotion to coordinate the league's best defense after Dan Quinn left the club to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

"Kris has done an extraordinary job. He's an excellent secondary coach," head coach Pete Carroll told the club's official website.

"Everything you can look at to evaluate that jumps out at you, the way these guys have achieved, the camaraderie that they have, the high level of play that they've maintained for a long time, the stats. Kris does a fantastic job. We rely on him heavily."

The Seahawks missed the chance to become the first team to have back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 10 years as they sustained a 28-24 defeat to the New England Patriots.
