Robert Meachem cut by San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers have severed ties with wide receiver Robert Meachem as part of their roster cut down.

The 28-year-old signed for the Chargers last season on a lucrative four-year deal but struggled with injuries in the 2012 campaign.

Meachem caught just 14 passes from Phillip Rivers and again failed to make an impact in pre-season, leading to his release this afternoon.

San Diego open their regular season campaign against the Houston Texans on September 9.
