Plaxico Burress to undergo shoulder surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirms that wide receiver Plaxico Burress will need surgery after sustaining a shoulder injury in practice.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed that Plaxico Burress will undergo surgery on his injured shoulder.

The wide receiver sustained a rotator cuff tear during practice with the team earlier this week.

In a statement, head coach Mike Tomlin said: "During Thursday's practice, Plaxico suffered what appears to be a significant shoulder injury.

"He is scheduled for surgery on Monday, and we will re-evaluate the injury at that time. I will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available."

It was initially reported that the injury could prevent Burress from playing any part in the 2013 NFL season.
