Menelik Watson: 'I was emotional before Wembley game'

Watson: 'I was emotional before Wembley game'

Oakland Raiders offensive lineman Menelik Watson has admitted that it was an emotional experience for him to play in front of his home crowd at Wembley.

Manchester-born Watson became the first Englishman to play at Wembley as part of an NFL team as he was thrown into the lineup against the Miami Dolphins due to an in-game injury to Khalif Barnes.

However, the Raiders were dominated in the clash as they fell to a 38-14 defeat to the AFC East side.

He told reporters: "I try not to be caught in the moment a lot. It was a little emotional before the game. But as soon as we started and I was coming in the extra tackle package, I didn't notice the crowd, I was out there just trying to complete the assignments.

"Unfortunately, Khalif went down and I was in. And I got a little second on the sidelines and it felt like, well, this is kind of historic to be at home and a guy goes down and I have to step up. It's just disappointing. It's not where we want to be in the season."

The Raiders are 0-4 in their season after the first four weeks of the campaign.
