Maurice Jones-Drew announces retirement

Former Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew announces his retirement from the NFL after nine years in the league.

Running back Maurice Jones-Drew has officially announced his retirement from the NFL after spending nine years in the league.

The 29-year-old made the announcement on his official Twitter account, after spending last season with the Oakland Raiders.

"All good things come to an end," he wrote.

"After much discussion with my family and business team during this off-season, I've decided to retire from the National Football League."

Jones-Drew was the 2011 NFL rushing leader, but his production dropped significantly after he was injured in 2012 and missed 10 games, which had a lasting effect on his overall performances in recent years.
