Hall of Famer Cris Carter told rookies to have a "fall guy"

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter urged the rookie class of 2014 to get a "fall guy" from among their friends to protect them from misdemeanours.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter told players of the 2014 rookie class to have a "fall guy".

The incident occurred when Carter and fellow Hall of Famer Warren Sapp were talking to rookies at their symposium last year, an event which gives detailed instructions for the first-year players on how to handle their careers in the NFL.

Carter made a speech urging the players to have a "fall guy" from among their group of friends to protect them from potential misdemeanours.

He said in a video published on NFL.com: "If you all got a crew, you got to have a fall guy in the crew. If you all have a crew, one of those fools got to know, he's the one going to jail. We'll get him out."

Carter was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2013.
