Smith: 'Familiarity with system will help'

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has expressed his belief that having familiarity of the system used by new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey will be beneficial to him during the off-season.

The Jets fired Rex Ryan at the end of the season while his coaching staff also left the club, leading the franchise to hire Todd Bowles as the new head coach, while former Buffalo Bills coach Gailey was brought in to lead the offense.

"The familiarity with it will help," Smith told the New York Post. "I don't know what the ins and outs of his offense is, but I can't wait to get back into it and learn it and develop timing with the guys. "I'll try and learn as much as I can without actually having the playbook."

Smith struggled immensely in the 2014 season and was pulled out of the lineup during the campaign, only to put back in later in the year as his team posted a 4-12 record.
