Patterson released by Jets

The New York Jets have announced that they have cut cornerback Dimitri Patterson as part of their roster cutdown.

Patterson was suspended by the club for an unexcused absence last week, but now the team have chosen to part ways with him on a permanent basis, despite their lack of depth in the secondary.

The Jets also cut quarterback Matt Simms, who served as the backup to Geno Smith last season, but has seen his place on the roster filled due to the arrival of Michael Vick.

Former second-round Draft pick Stephen Hill was also released as he continued to struggle in the club's offense during training camp.

Rex Ryan's side also cut Tahj Boyd, Brandon Dixon, Will Campbell, Troy Davis, Clyde Gates, Tevita Finau, Kerry Hyder, Garrett McIntyre, Rontez Miles, Brent Qvale, Jeremy Reeves and Caleb Schlauderaff.
