New York Jets' Todd Bowles: 'Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue as starter'

Bowles: 'Fitzpatrick will continue as starter'

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles has confirmed that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the club's starting quarterback even when Geno Smith returns to fitness.

Smith was named the starter during training camp, but then sustained a broken jaw when he was punched in the face by Ikemefuna Enemkpali, ruling him out for two months.

Fitzpatrick stepped into the role and led the Jets to a victory in their opening match against the Cleveland Browns, and continued his composed start in their win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The 32-year-old's displays have led Bowles to reveal that he will keep him as the starter, even when Smith returns to practice.

"Ryan will get all the first-team reps," Bowles told reporters.

Fitzpatrick has thrown for 423 yards and four touchdowns to two interceptions this season.
