Arizona Cardinals survive New York Giants comeback

Cardinals survive Giants comeback

The Arizona Cardinals needed a strong finish to ensure that they wrapped up a 22-14 win over the New York Giants to remain unbeaten in the NFL this season.

The Cardinals were without starting quarterback Carson Palmer, who sustained a shoulder injury earlier this week, leaving Drew Stanton to make his first NFL start in almost four years.

The NFC West side made a strong start, with Stanton handing to ball off to Jonathan Dwyer for an early touchdown, before Chandler Catanzaro added a field goal.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning struggled for much of the first two quarters, throwing an interception before being sacked twice, but he found his form just before the break to complete a seven-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle.

Manning cut out the errors in the third as he created another touchdown for the home side, this time finding Daniel Fells to put the Giants ahead for the first time.

Catanzaro added a field goal to cut the Giants lead to a single point, before Ted Ginn Jr sprinted 71 yards on a punt return to restore Arizona's advantage.

Catanzaro kicked a further six points to ensure that the Giants needed a touchdown, but Manning was unable to lead the hosts back into contention.
