Payton hails undrafted rookie Foster

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has hailed the performance of rookie Glenn Foster in their pre-season campaign.

The undrafted first-year defensive end has notched up three sacks, three quarterback hits and a forced fumble in the Saints' two games so far, giving himself a good chance of making their roster for the regular season.

Payton told The AP: "He's playing exceptionally well. When you get a player who comes in a rookie class as an undrafted free agent and is playing like he is and well enough to make the team, that's a good deal.

"He is very consistent, explosive. He was a player, after the draft, that a handful of teams were interested in and fortunately for us we were able to get him."

The Saints open their regular season campaign against the Atlanta Falcons on September 8.
