Sean Payton: 'Drew Brees making good progress in injury recovery'

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton reveals that Drew Brees has stepped up his recovery from a shoulder injury which ruled him out of week three.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has revealed that quarterback Drew Brees is making good progress in his recovery from a shoulder injury.

The 36-year-old sustained the problem in his side's defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was ruled out of their match against the Carolina Panthers, and as a result was replaced by Luke McCown in the lineup.

However, Payton has disclosed that Brees has stepped up his rehabilitation in practice, but has refused to reveal whether he will play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

"It's going to be safe to say he's going to throw every day now, continue to rehab and strengthen the shoulder," Payton told reporters.

"I would say, based on the way he's feeling, he's done well. He's improved. His strength – I think all of that has been positive.

"We'll be able to gauge when we get into a full practice today, tomorrow and Friday and have a better idea of to what degree [Brees has improved]."

The Saints are currently 0-3 in their season.
