New England Patriots sign Reggie Wayne on one-year deal

The New England Patriots sign veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne on a one-year contract after he was allowed to leave the Indianapolis Colts at the end of last season.

The New England Patriots have completed the signing of free agent wide receiver Reggie Wayne on a one-year deal.

The 36-year-old was allowed to leave the Indianapolis Colts at the end of last season as his role in their offense diminished towards the end of the campaign.

Wayne has been on the open market since March, but the Patriots moved for the veteran after Brandon Gibson sustained a torn ACL, ruling him out for the 2015 campaign.

"He's certainly had a great career and has done a lot of things for the Colt organisation, primarily playing on the left but then in more recent years being moved around to playing on the right and also in some slot situations," head coach Bill Belichick told WEEI.

"I think he has a lot of versatility and obviously he has a lot of experience, so we'll just have to see how it goes."

Wayne has recorded 1,070 receptions for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns in his 14 years in the NFL.
