Donald Trump backs Tom Brady in deflategate scandal

Donald Trump believes that the NFL have treated New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady poorly in the deflategate scandal after he was suspended for four games.

Donald Trump has backed Tom Brady in his dispute against the NFL for the deflategate scandal, claiming that the league have been "ridiculous" throughout the saga.

The New England Patriots quarterback was suspended for four games by the NFL for being generally aware that members of his side's equipment staff had deflated footballs in their AFC championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Brady took the matter to court after his suspension was upheld by commissioner Roger Goodell, and is now currently embroiled in a dispute, with judge Richard Berman pleading for both sides to come to a settlement.

However, Trump believes that the matter is "ridiculous" over the grand scheme of troubles in the United States.

"I think it's ridiculous the way they've treated him. He's a friend of mine, he's a great friend of mine, he's a great guy, and I think it's ridiculous the way they've treated him.

"To spend $10m (£6.3m) in legal fees, and now it's probably higher than that, it's crazy. He's a great star. They ought to go back to playing football. This country has bigger problems."

Brady and the NFL are scheduled to meet in court again on August 31.
