Report: New England Patriots discuss new deal with Vince Wilfork

The New England Patriots are discussing a new deal with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork to lower his salary cap number for the 2014 season, according to a report.

The New England Patriots are reportedly in talks with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork over a new deal with the club.

The 32-year-old has one year left on his current contract, but his salary cap number for the 2014 season is worth $11.6m (£6.9m) and the club wants to reduce that before the start of free agency.

Wilfork missed the majority of the 2013 season with a torn Achilles injury, and due to his advancing years, the Patriots may be prepared to let him leave should he not agree to a new deal, reports ESPN.

The defensive lineman has been with the Patriots since the 2004 season.
