Rick Smith thankful for Gary Kubiak support

Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith expresses his gratitude for the support shown to coach Gary Kubiak.

Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith has expressed his gratitude for the number of people who have wished head coach Gary Kubiak well after he collapsed during a match at the weekend.

Kubiak fell to his knees while walking off the field at half time of the Texans' eventual 27-24 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night before being taken to hospital, where he has remained since.

Smith revealed that the 52-year-old was in "good spirits" and reiterated that the team's main priority is to take care of Kubiak's health and well-being.

"Our primary concern is of course with Gary's health and well-being," Smith said in a team statement.

"There have been so many people throughout the city and across the country that have reached out to express their love and support, and we are thankful for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

"Gary is alert, coherent and in good spirits. He is continuing to be evaluated and monitored."

It is still unclear as to when Kubiak will be able to return to the sidelines to resume control of the team he has coached since 2006.
