Report: Caldwell becomes Lions head coach

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the Detroit Lions.

The Lions fired previous boss Jim Schwartz after they failed to reach the playoffs for the second-successive season in the NFC North, despite their rivals suffering injuries to their starting quarterbacks.

After interviewing several candidates for the role the Lions front office deemed that Caldwell was right man for the job, a year after winning the Super Bowl with the Ravens, according to NFL Network.

Caldwell has previous head coaching experience with the Indianapolis Colts, where he served as boss for three seasons before he was fired after finishing 2-14 in the 2011 campaign.
