Denver Broncos' John Fox undergoes successful surgery

The Denver Broncos confirm that head coach John Fox has successfully undergone surgery on a heart valve replacement and is currently in recovery.

The Denver Broncos have confirmed that head coach John Fox successfully underwent surgery on his heart on Monday.

Fox required a heart valve replacement after collapsing while playing golf on Saturday and as a result will be out for several weeks of his side's season.

The Broncos said in a statement: "Denver Broncos head coach John Fox underwent successful aortic valve replacement surgery this morning at Carolinas HealthCare System's Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute in Charlotte.

"He is currently in the hospital's post-operative critical care unit, where his recovery is being monitored by doctors."

Fox's wife Robin added: "Our family greatly appreciates the overwhelming support and well-wishes we've received for John. Along with his medical team, we will take great care of him so he can fully recover and get back to coaching the Broncos as soon as possible."

Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio will fill in for Fox as interim head coach while he recovers from the operation.
